New Schmidt Color Images on Kodak Ektachrome Elite II 100 Film

Enjoy the views and please observe the copyright restriction on the homepage. If you wish to read a rather long-winded description about my observatory and photographic work, continue past the images in the Table of Contents.

The Schmidt camera images presented on this page are far more recent than those in the previous three sections. They were all exposed within the past year using unhypered Kodak Ektachrome Elite II 100 film and received standard processing at a local one-hour photolab. The resulting slides were then scanned with the HP PhotoSmart scanner my wife gave me for Christmas '97. Further image processing was done with Photoshop.

NGC 2237, the Rossette Nebulae and the star cluster NGC 2244 in Monoceros.
Location: Rossette and NGC 2244 = 06h 30m +05d
Size: Rossete = 80 X 60 arc/min, NGC 2244 = 40 arc/min
Magnitude: NGC 2244 = 5.5
7.5 minute exposure on Ektachrome Elite II 100, developed with E-6 chemistry and no push processing.
NGC 281 Nebula

1050 X 750 pixel 77 K .jpg

The Pleiades M-45 in Taurus
Location: 03h 44m +24d
Size: 100 arc/min
Magnitude: 2.5
7.5 minute exposure on Ektachrome Elite II 100, developed with E-6 chemistry and no push processing.
Double Cluster

1050 X 750 pixel 150 K .jpg

The Double Cluster in Perseus
Location: 02h 17m +57d
Size: 60 arc/min
Magnitude: 3.5
7.5 minute exposure on Ektachrome Elite II 100, developed with E-6 chemistry and no push processing.
Compare this image with the Double Cluster on the previous page. Elite II 100 shows its superiority over the old Ektachrome 200.
Sagittarius Star Cloud

1050 X 750 pixel 161 K .jpg

The Sagittarius Star Cloud
Location: Approximately 18h -25d
Five minute exposure on unhypered Ektachrome Elite II 100 film, normal E-6 processing.
Oops!

1050 X 750 pixel 121 K .jpg

Oops! This is what happens when you accidentally forget to advance the film between exposures. NGC 1499, the California Nebula, was superimposed over IC 434, which contains the Horsehead Nebula.
Two 7.5 minute exposures on the same frame of unhypered Ektachrome Elite II 100 film, normal E-6 processing.
